| The What If? Foundation funds a six week Art and Crafts Camp that takes place at the St. Clare's Church rectory (the same site as the food program). Members of St. Clare's Church run and staff the camp, teaching valuable skills that could be a source of income later in life. In a neighborhood without organized sports or other child enrichment activities, this camp is the highlight of the summer for the 450 children who attend. Last year's camp took place from July 9th - August 17th. In addition to five hours of classes, each child receives a hot lunch from the food program. Here is a description of the camp's activities: “It is a great joy to watch the youngsters develop their skills in workshops such as: Floral Arts, Macramé, Baneko (using banana peels to make beautiful cards), Calligraphy, Sewing, Embroidery… We keep the kids busy and are teaching them something useful. They are having a good time in recreation while also being fed.”
The cost to run the camp is approximately $9,000 plus the cost of 450 additional meals at the food program each day.
