The "Feed My Lambs" Food Program

Preparing the meal over a fire The "Feed My Lambs" food program began in March, 2000. Since then, it has provided over 100,000 meals to children in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Through the efforts of nearly 60 volunteers from St. Clare's Catholic Parish in Port-au-Prince, the food program serves 500 children every Sunday and Wednesday. The meals of rice, fresh vegetables and chicken, provide the most nutritious food they will eat all week.

The cost per meal for each child is about 50 cents, so when donors contribute $100, they help feed 200 children. $250 feeds about 500. To make a tax-deductible contribution, please use the form (How You Can Help).

As a result of the recent coup, Haiti is in the midst of not only a political crisis but a humanitarian crisis. "The people are hungrier than ever. Last Sunday several children came up to me and said they hadn't eaten in days," Father Jean-Juste recently told us. In addition to providing two meals/week to 500 children, "Feed My Lambs" is now providing rice and beans on a daily basis to the neighborhood's hungriest families.

eating in Food is purchased from Haitian farmers, helping support the local economy, and is prepared by volunteers.

Father Jean-Juste, who oversees the "Feed My Lambs" program writes: "Sunday was another great food day. The meals were delicious and plentiful. The hungry ones have eaten to their appetite, wishing every day to be a food day like today. The volunteers and I were happy for this great food sharing. More than 500 came from all denominations and various communities."

According to the World Bank, Haiti is the third hungriest country in the world.
